Cycling for Libraries – Day 9 at the EU Parliament

We arrived in Brussels and celebrated the end of the ride at the Grand Place, it is considered one if not the most beautiful public squares in the world.

The cycling may have ended on Day 8, but our final day is when the advocacy really kicked into high gear. We presented a declaration on the importance of libraries to the EU Parliament in the morning and met with the Flemish Parliament. We saw a new public library in Brussels that is sharing space with other community resources. Customers can check out a band’s CD and buy tickets to the band’s show all in one place.

In the evening we were treated to a special EU Library tour and dinner at the Parliament. What a great experience! The big news of the night was the announcement of the 2014 ride from Barcelona to Lyon! By the end of the night, the memories of all the ride’s challenges were fading and as we shared our favorite moments from the trip it was hard to imagine not joining this amazing, crazy group of librarians for another fantastic year of Cycling for Libraries!
